A HISTORIOGRAPHIC PROSE-POEM accentuated by a striking array of collages, Chamber Music has been creatively assembled by the author-artist. The prose-poem is a story that is narrated within the constraints of the poetic genre; it is brief, direct, and precise. The artwork accompanying the writing allows the reader to venture forth into the narration's imaginary world with the certainty that the illusion will end. In this sense, Anthony LeBaron's work addresses critical political and social issues of a late twentieth century and questions their long-term significance.
'The illustrations are all done with pen and ink, and graphite. I simply start with an idea or image and see where it takes me. It is usually a process of creating and then distorting imagery. I rely heavily on accidents, spills, washes, tears, reversed printed images and rediscovered scraps (turned upside down). I never threw anything out. For months I was surrounded by splots, scraps, and cutouts. To whoever invented collage, I am grateful.'

Anthony LeBaron was born in Montreal and studied visual arts in Montreal and Toronto, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. Although Chamber Music is the first publication featuring his work only, in 1982 he illustrated three volumes of children's verse, including Scary Poems of Rotten Kids by Sean O'huigan.
