Letters to the Family
Naomi Ziman Roberts and Peter M. Roberts
6 X 9 inches, 200 pages
18 pages of photographs
This work offers an intimate account of the experiences of a Canadian junior foreign service officer and his wife while they lived in the Soviet Union during the Cold War period. Separated as a child from her family in wartime England, Naomi Roberts developed the habit of sending letters to her parents every week. This practice was revived when she accompanied her diplomat husband, Peter Roberts, to Moscow during his first foreign assignment. The letters are frank and unaffected, and demonstrate the writers' affectionate relationship with their families.
